Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program
The Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program offers a scholarship for secondary school students in Oman to live and study in the U.S. for one academic year.
Participants in the YES program:
Live with an American family
Improve their English skills
Study at a U.S. high school
Participate in youth leadership activities
- Experience U.S. culture and society
- Make new friends
- Help Americans learn more about the Sultanate of Oman
Scholarships cover all major expenses including airfare, health insurance, spending money and educational supplies. American host families provide room and meals at no cost to the student.
To be eligible, students must:
- have an excellent academic record
- Demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to cross-cultural understanding
- Be at least 15 years old by August 1 and no older than 17 by August 1
- Be entering grades 10 or 11
- Be able to achieve a score of 50 on the SLEP English language proficiency test (international exam offered at AMIDEAST offices)
- Not be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
Scholarship applicants are evaluated on the basis of language skills, applications and supporting documents, an interview, and diversity.

The YES program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered in the Middle East and North Africa region by a consortium of organizations that includes AYUSA International and AMIDEAST.
