PUBLIC AFFAIRS
General Information
The Public Affairs Section is responsible for media relations and public diplomacy programs designed to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between Omani and American individuals and institutions. The section conducts a full range of cultural and educational activities, including lectures, workshops, exhibits and artistic programs.
American Corners
American Corners are partnerships between the Embassy and Omani host institutions. Corners are open to the general public and are usually located at universities. The extensive library collections and lectures about America at the Corners help Omanis learn more about American culture and the outstanding educational and business opportunities in the United States. To learn more about American Corners in Oman, including locations and events, please visit
U.S. Embassy Muscat's American Corners page.
Educational Exchange ProgramsThe Public Affairs Section administers educational exchange programs. Although opportunities for scholarships are few, large numbers of students travel to the US each year to take advantage of our highly advanced and frequently specialized educational programs.
The Information Resource Center (IRC)The Information Resource Center (IRC) provides services to keep up with with the electronic information revolution. The IRC increasingly relies on on-line or laser-disk databases. The Director of the IRC is trained to help you make use of these technologies, and is happy to respond to any inquiry regarding what is available.
Attestation of Degrees
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy provides attestation of accreditation for holders of academic degrees from accredited U.S. colleges and universities. This attestation makes it possible for degree holders to receive subsequent attestation from Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is necessary for anyone using their academic experience as a basis for employment in the Sultanate.
Degree holders are required to bring to the Embassy the original of their degree diploma/certificate and one clear photocopy. Attestation is provided only for degrees received from institutions that are currently listed as accredited by bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. To learn more about U.S. accreditation, and to search a database of accredited institutions and programs, visit the U.S. Department of Education’s website at http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation.
There is no charge for this service. Attestation is provided at the Embassy’s Information Research Center (IRC) at the following times: Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
