On Tuesday, January 30, the U.S. Embassy in Muscat held a special outreach program for Omani journalists.  The event highlighted ways in which the Embassy is ensuring that those seeking U.S. visas in Oman have the information they need regarding the visa process and travel to the United States.  Speaking at the program, Ambassador Gary A. Grappo called this “a good news story” in the Sultanate, adding as an example that the majority of successful applicants for visitor and other short-term visas receive their visas within two business days.  He reviewed recent developments and improvements in the visa-application process, citing the balance that the Department of State, through the Bureau of Consular Affairs, has achieved between the vital requirements of national security and the importance of maintaining access for travelers, a balance summed up as “secure borders, open doors.”

Embassy Consular officers gave the visitors a tour of the Consular Section and provided information on how the visa process works and what the requirements are for applicants for tourist, business, and student visas.  Participants also visited the Embassy’s Information Resource Center and learned more about the EducationUSA program that provides information and assistance about studying at colleges and universities in the United States.
