How To Apply
A U.S. Consular Officer must interview, in person, visa applicants between the ages of 14 and 79. Applicants for visas should generally apply at the American embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence. Although visa applicants may apply at any U.S. consular office abroad, it may be more difficult for applicants to qualify for a visa outside of their country of residence. For example, those applying at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat should be Omani citizens or residents and be able to demonstrate strong economic, familial, and/or social ties to Oman. All non-Omani applicants should have residency permits that extend through their anticipated dates of travel. Minor children included in a parent’s passport require their own application and fee.
Steps in the Application Process:
Step 1. Determine the appropriate Type of Visa.
Step 2. Get your Photo.
Step 3. Complete and submit the Application.
Step 4. Schedule an Appointment.
Step 5. Gather supporting Documents.
Step 6. Review the application Checklist.
Step 7. Go to your Interview
Note: Fulfilling the visa application requirements detailed above does not guarantee issuance of a visa. A visa may be issued only when the applicant independently qualifies for visa status.
Some visa applications require additional administrative processing. To avoid possible delays, we encourage applicants to apply as early as possible.
