CONSULAR SERVICES

How to Apply

  • Previously issued U.S. visas that have not yet expired remain valid for travel to the United States. There is no need to revalidate or to reissue a valid visa.
  • Applicants for non-immigrant visas must present one full-face photograph, taken against a plain light-colored background (preferably white or cream), showing the entire, uncovered head. Applicants may wear a head covering for religious reasons but only if the head covering does not obscure any portion of the face. Traditional head coverings may not be worn in photos submitted for visa applications.
  • Applicants for non-immigrant visas are urged to apply for visas as far in advance of planned travel as possible. Visa applications must be submitted at least one month in advance of proposed travel. Processing time can take up to several weeks.
  • The Embassy does not inquire about a person's religious affiliation on the visa application.
  • Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the planned date of departure from the U.S.
  • Each applicant must complete and sign the standard application form DS-156 (non-immigrant visa application form--available at the Consular Section or on the Internet at evisaforms.state.gov) for each individual traveling to the U.S.
  • A non-refundable visa application fee of USD 100.00 (RO 40) is charged to all applications for standard visitor visas, regardless of whether a visa is issued. Additionally, an issuance fee (which can vary from RO 4 to RO 80 depending on nationality reciprocity schedules) may apply.
