Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The U.S. Embassy and AMIDEAST are pleased to announce the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for 2008.  Established by the US Congress in 1946, the Fulbright Program was founded to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange.  AMIDEAST administers the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for the Middle East and North Africa on behalf of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  This highly prestigious scholarship program is a two-year fellowship, designed to give graduates of four-year bachelor’s degree programs the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree at a U.S. university.  The program is funded by the United States Government, with the exception of international airfare, which must be paid for by the scholarship recipient. 
 
US citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.  Applicants in clinical nursing, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine are not eligible to apply.
 
To be eligible to be considered for a Fulbright Foreign Student Program scholarship through the US Embassy in Oman, you must meet all the following criteria.

  • Possess Omani citizenship
  • Possess a four-year bachelor’s degree, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Achieve a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL
  • For applicants in business, have two years of work experience and achieve a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT
  • For applicants in non-business fields, GRE scores of at least 500 on the Quantitative (Math) section and 3.0 on the Analytical (Writing) section are preferred

For applicants who wish to pursue a doctorate, they must already have possess a master’s degree in a field related to their proposed doctoral studies
 
The online application can be found at www.amideast.org. Complete applications for scholarships that will begin in Fall 2008 are due to the US Embassy in Muscat by Wednesday, May 2, 2007.  Late applications will not be considered.  Complete applications must include all the following items.

  • Complete, typed application (online application available at www.amideast.org
  • Résumé/CV
  • Photocopy of current passport
  • Passport photos
  • Original transcripts for undergraduate studies (and previous graduate studies, if applicable)
  • Three recommendation letters
  • Photocopies of relevant certificates and/or awards
  • Photocopies of valid TOEFL, GRE, and/or GMAT score reports
