Donation Highlights U.S.-Oman Cooperation

On Tuesday, February 20, Ambassador Gary A. Grappo, accompanied by Paul van Son, Director of the U.S. Department of State's Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) assistance program, met with Lt. General Malik bin Sulaiman al Ma'mari, Inspector General of the Royal Oman Police, and other senior police officials. The Ambassador and Mr. van Son presented the ROP with a donation of equipment that will assist Oman in its ongoing efforts to combat smuggling of illicit materials that pose a security threat to Oman and the region. In addition to the equipment, which includes ground sensors, inspection and detection kits, and other new tools, EXBS will provide training to ensure effective use of this new technology. Ambassador Grappo praised the dedication of the ROP to regional and international security cooperation, noting the importance of such cooperation in maintaining the safety and security of the Omani people.
