L. Victor Hurtado
Victor Hurtado is a political cone officer who has spent the majority of his career working on the Middle East account. He recently completed a long-term training assignment at the National War College. Prior to that, Victor headed the Office of Iraq Affairs, serving concurrently for six months as acting Deputy Secretary of State for Iraq Affairs. He previously served three years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during peak period of that country’s war on terror and support for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mr. Hurtado has been posted abroad also to Tunis, Damascus, Ottawa, and Mexico City. At the Department, he served also on the Lebanon desk, on the Israel-Lebanon Monitoring Group, as staff assistant to the Near Eastern Affairs Assistant Secretary, and in the State Department Operations Center. He has received multiple Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards. In addition to his MS degree from the War College, Victor holds an MBA from the University of Denver, and a BA from UCLA. He is married to Margaret Haas and has three children.
