On Sunday, April 22, Ambassador Gary A. Grappo visited the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), one of six institutions in Oman that hosts an American Corner. American Corners are multimedia resource centers that provide a wide range of information about U.S. society, culture, and history. Founded in February 2004, MCBS's American Corner was the first such facility in the Near East region. Today, it is one of dozens of American Corners hosted by U.S. embassies around the world.
During his visit, Ambassador Grappo met with MCBS administrators and faculty, toured the college library, and spoke with students. While visiting the American Corner, he donated some new additions to its collection, including a World Book Encyclopedia and a selection of books on various aspects of American history and society. He joined a group of students for an informal discussion at which he highlighted the strong and historic ties between Oman and the United States, including the recent Free Trade Agreement, and encouraged students to take advantage of America's excellent educational opportunities. He answered questions from the students and learned more about study at MCBS.
In addition to MCBS, Oman's five other American Corners are hosted by al-Buraimi University College, Sohar University, Muscat's Higher College of Technology, Rustaq College of Education, and the English Language Center in Salalah.
